Our July 2026 Wrap – Shifting the Focus
Following June’s record-breaking month, July provided a different kind of success.
While submissions eased, activity remained well above our monthly average and, more importantly, we saw a noticeable shift in the conversations brokers are having with their farming clients. Increasingly, the focus is moving beyond price towards understanding the value of broader, more appropriate coverage.
It’s a shift we believe leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.
The Highlights
Our quote submissions remained strong at 29% above our monthly average.
While our enhanced PDS, including improved domestic property coverage, has delivered a 58% reduction in decline-to-quote outcomes. This positions Harland Green strongly in the grazing segment, where comprehensive domestic property protection is a key consideration for producers.
Perhaps the most encouraging trend, however, was the change in broker conversations. More discussions are now centred on understanding coverage and value, rather than simply comparing premiums.
Some Observations and Insights
Better claims outcomes following enhanced broker-farmer conversations.
The shift towards helping farmers better understand risk and protection is strengthening client relationships and helping farmers make more informed insurance decisions.
Brokers tell us that while farmers are highly capable brokers still see decisions to under-insure assets – or insure only those perceived to be at greatest risk. Obviously this can create significant gaps in protection. Presenting credible alternatives that maximise coverage while keeping premiums competitive adds value for both the client and the adviser.
We’re also seeing the benefits of this approach reflected in claims outcomes. Several recent claims have demonstrated the advantages of our ISR policy over a traditional farm package policy. Under our policy, the onus is on us to establish the application of cover and find a pathway to pay a claim. By contrast, under defined or listed events policies, the insured must establish that a loss falls within the events covered.
One recent claim resulted in a higher payment for the client, reinforcing the value of broader coverage when it’s needed most.
Looking Ahead
We’re preparing to provide producing brokers with access to Harland, our data-driven quotation and risk platform designed to support better client conversations.
In addition to generating quotations in just a few minutes, Harland provides brokers with deeper insights to better understand their client’s exposure, discuss coverage and deliver greater value to farming clients. Access will be available to producing brokers, those who have previously bound business with us.
If you haven’t yet placed business with Harland Green, we encourage you to do so in the coming months. Call us on 02 9542 2651 or email enquiries@harlandgreen.com.
